Overview of 2017 Outlander Sport
The Outlander Sport comes with an assortment of powertrains, starting with the 2.0-liter I-4 engine that produces 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque that can be paired to either a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT. EPA ratings for the 2017 Outlander Sport are still pending but the 2016 model was estimated to deliver 24/31 mpg city/highway with the CVT and 23/29 mpg with the manual when front-wheel drive is specified. The all-wheel-drive powertrain only comes with the CVT and was rated 23/29 mpg city/highway for 2016. The larger 2.4-liter I-4 engine increases output to 168 hp and 167 lb-ft. This engine is only paired to the CVT and for 2016 delivered 23/28 mpg with front-wheel drive and 22/27 mpg with all-wheel drive.
The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport's infotainment system consists of a 6.1-inch touch panel display audio system with rearview camera, an available 710-watt Rockford Fosgate premium audio system with nine speakers and a 10-inch subwoofer, DTS Neural Surround, PremiDIA-WIDE surround, Dolby volume, and FUSE Hands-Free Link System with Bluetooth technology, USB port, and steering wheel controls. For added style, the exterior has a standard shark fin antenna, available Super-Wide High Intensity Discharge headlights, chrome belt line molding, and an available panoramic glass sunroof with adjustable LED mood lighting.
Safety of the 2017 Outlander Sport
The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport received an overall four-star rating (out of five) from the NHTSA. This included a four-star rating for the frontal crash test, a five-star rating for the side crash test, and a four-star rating for the rollover test. The IIHS gave the 2016 Outlander Sport its highest rating of "Good" for the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats tests. The organization gave its second highest rating of "Acceptable" for the small overlap front test.
